How To Upgrade ipcc to IPhone

Filed in iPhone , Technology 37 comments

Apple have disabled the capability of updating the Carrier files (via IPCC) in itunes 8.2 but If you want to update your carrier files with the latest itunes 8.2 and itunes 9.0 you can do it this way.
On Windows it may rename the file to .zip to just rename it back to .ipcc

Make sure itunes is not running

hi so if you have the official itunes 8.2, delete it right now because you cant install the carrier bundles. but first download t-mobile.ipcc if you are t-mobile and you are missing the cellular data tab… search for it or some.. and then download 8.2 beta from tyiphonehelp.com then run it. and then open up that itunes then there will be an error thats going to pop up… to fix that go to My Documents/My Music then find iTunes Library.itl. all you have to do is rename it to iTunes Library.itl.old…thats all you have to do… In addition, open up iTunes once again then it should work just fine, then press shift first then click check for update… (you will type in t-mobile.ipcc because itunes is looking for ipsw only) then wait for it to install it then after that reboot your iphone and that will be it…..:-)

hey i have windows 7 and have tried both of the cmd commands none of them work…what am i doing wrong?

  • http://randomcritic.com RandomCritic

you have to know where the ITunes file is installed in before anything.. could be different extensions. I only did this tutorial based on windows vista. but I’m sure it should work with any windows as long as the command is typed exactly as written up there.. make sure you know where your iTunes is installed then edit the extension.

  • sshoots

im using at&t. i downloaded the folder then extracted it. it give me a folder that says payload or _macos. im lost from there.

  • http://randomcritic.com RandomCritic

if it downloads as a .zip … just rename it into .ipcc in the end

  • http://twitter.com/crzybeautiful Aurora

For those of you who are having trouble downloading the .ipcc file I have a trick. If you use FireFox as your browser it will automatically download the file as .ipcc. I have seen this alot with Apple files & Internet Explorer (on Windows) where you attempt to download an .ipcc or .ipa file & its downloads as a .zip file & you can’t convert it. If you try to do the file extension conversion as mentioned below, some people may have a corrupted file & it will brick their phone. I have seen it first hand. Safest way is to just download FireFox & its free! If you have any questions or need help please feel free to e-mail me at ckittiesprint@aim.com

    Hi,

When updating the .IPCC file will this also change the call/text/mms settings?

I’m looking to fully change my carrier. Any help is welcome :D

  • http://randomcritic.com RandomCritic

No the ipcc is only to add the missing cellular data network. Depending on ur carrier u need to find out what your apn settings are. Google it

  • importcrew

I just updated my ipcc file on my 32gb iPhone 3gs. It’s working great so far.

    32gb iPhone 3gs
    3.0.1 Firmware
    NO jailbreak
    iTunes 8.2

    thanks for all the information

  • Vic_C

Whats the difference between the AT&T file from the 11th and the the AT&T 5.1 from the 12th?? I have used the 5.1 file on all 3 of the families iPhones and all seems to be well!! Thanks so much for posting the files and the walkthrough. Have been trying to do this for weeks and this one by far is the easiest!!!

  • http://randomcritic.com RandomCritic

all thesame.. and you’re welcome :)

  • penpen72

what am I doing wrong? I cannot get itunes to let me add the ipcc. I have 9.0 itunes, is that where I am going wrong?

  • http://randomcritic.com RandomCritic

No, iTunes 9 works too. Maybe u r inputting the command wrong. What system are u on? Make sure u know where ur iTunes folder is located in c:/ drive if ur on windows

  • penpen72

disregard! I got it to work with 9.0….now to see if mms works…..yep it does! THANKS A MILLION!!!!

  • manapkt

I did everything correctly and I have the MMS option, but when I tried to send a MMS message I get an error with the choice to re-try or cancel.

  • Vic_C

Having an issue. Wife and I have 3GS and MMS works fine using the above file and walkthrough. Daughter has 3G but cannot send or receive using exact same settings as wife and I. Have tried both WiFi and 3G. Very strange….any ideas??

  • http://randomcritic.com RandomCritic

check your MMS servers that match your carrier.. my suggestion is google it.

  • http://randomcritic.com RandomCritic

if You’re on AT&T, for 3d try the different carrier than what you’re 3gs is on.. if you’re on 5.1 carrier, try the 5.0 carrier. and make sure you get the right servers in your MMS, if you can;t find them let me know I’ll look them up for you.

  • xpertxp

Well I was able to do this to a non jailbroken iphone 3gs with no problems. However, my 3.0.1 3GS Jailbroken iPhone errors out everytime I try to update the carrier file with an “unknown error 0xE800003D”…..Any help is greatly appreciated….

  • http://none BostonBob

Can anyone tell me how to get rid of the new upgrade 3.1 and go back to 3.01 on a 3Gs?
I lost the ability to tether the phone, which really P—- me off
    Thanks

  • http://randomcritic.com RandomCritic

there isn’t a way if you used the regular way to upgrade (iTunes update straight from apple) because that changed your baseband. But there is a way to get your tethering back, some have had success by following the tutorial posted by using the ipcc files offered, but I can;t guarantee you it will work.

  • Kaleem Mohammed

any update for 3.1.3. The current .ipcc files are not working 3.1.3 version iphone OS.

  • http://randomcritic.com RandomCritic

as of now. only factory unlocked 3.1.3 have tethering, there is no ipcc uploads for 3.1.3 yet. when there is, the download section will be updated. However some of the carriers have it enabled automatically as soon as you put in your sim card. I know for sure T-Mobile doesnt have that because I’m with t-mobile.

Ps: check this post. I updated it today

    hope it helps.

  • Iecsc62dsec

I paid to find out how to activate 3G on my early version Iphone but can’t find the information. What’s the deal?

  • X man
