Using basic shapes, we apply the same principle again, this time using a sniper as the subject matter. These are minor exercises in designing dominant shaping by using heavy contrast – and, more importantly, copying the same drawing and starting a new design. After making the first one, I was satisfied with the pose but the arm and weapon placement was sloppy, so I repositioned them to add better interest.

  • ghostmetal10

  • gunzet

ah yea I know, but I don’t have access to one, atleast not all the time. I do most of my concepts traditionally still until I’m able to get a tablet

  • adventurewomen

@gunzet If you’re serious about concept art the only way to get really good, is to use a tablet Wacom tablets are industry standard they are highly recommended it’s important to use a tablet for accuracy and to improve your work standards.

  • gunzet

I’m an aspiring concept artist and I gotta say your stuff is amazing, the technique especially, I’ve never tryed this method before…then again I don’t have a tablet either, but mouse drawing will have to do. I HAVE to try this lol

  • Jeylo596

    wow :O

  • EatYourChimp

Thats a great video showing technique…pretty straight foreward, no need for a tutorial. Will use this method thanks :D

i was wondering the same think as Jake91m.
I had cheaked out the other 2 vids before this one, and i have the starting down, but i was wondering for the details of the tones of white and gray, did you use some sort of angled one? or did you use a regular circle to draw in the details after the original silouette?

  • Jake91M

just wondering what brush your using?…might be a stupid question…some type of angled brush?

  • dejakhalz

@DesertFoX91 Your welcome, I have a 12wx too and it is the same quality as the 21 inch. However, the 12wx is widescreen so it will make your drawings more wide compared to a normal monitor, something that bugs me a bit. Something to keep in mind…

  • DesertFoX91

@dejakhalz Ty buddy, could get a bamboo with my own money but dad is kinda elitist so he wants me to work my ass off and he’ll get me the cintiq12wx since the bigger one is… well too big for my actual needs. ty for the info again

  • dejakhalz

@DesertFoX91 Just make sure you get a tablet from Wacom. A Wacom intuos 3 or 4 is a really good tablet. If money is no problem you can also get a Wacom Cintiq, these are tablets with a screen inside so you can draw directly on screen like you would do on paper. I have a Wacom Cintiq and it was defenitly worth it for me.

But if you actually don’t have a lot of money, you can also just get a Wacom Bamboo, the quality is defenitly good enough to start making concept art on PS

    Hope this info helps

  • DesertFoX91

it is for beginners as it tries to explain at least, you need inspiration and some techniques to be explained here, after all… the skill is inherent to those who wish to do concept art right? I wanna do this, but I can only do it on paper so far, PS is my next step after I get a tablet. What I want to know is Which brand or model should I get? price isnt a problem, I just want to get quality (sensibility and pixels per inch and stuff)

  • gaypotter

this is good but i dont see how its a tutorial…

  • randomspirits

Great stuff. I use a similar process, but your brushes seem better? Would you be willing to share?

  • mfjeff

    dang
    super nice stuff
your method of staring with pure black works really really well :>
