@dewgreen14 All the links on my blog are hand picked. The hard drives are not only compatible, but also something I would consider buying myself. I included the spec details so you can pick your own hard drive from anywhere. Just make sure the hard drive that your choose matches the specification I posted on my blog and you will not have any problems. I recommend looking for a hard drive with a 5 year factory warranty, as those are the most reliable.

Thanks for the vid. I just got my 1.5tb seagate in, and it worked. I may have damaged the cord at the top of the case.

Some audio description would’ve been good. Hard to see what you’re actually doing.

@wendileona Hey guys, please check my blog (address in the video details) for a complete list of compatible hard drives, good deals, and other specific information regarding this installation. YouTube won’t let me post a link in the comments, but let’s try this: paste the following into your browser’s address bar and replace all the – with a . and it should work

@hamiltonnyc908 Guys, how much is that 2TB Seagate Barra?!
@gersonfb How about the WD Caviar – how much?! I’m running an external Firewire drive since my internal just crashed after heavy read/write stuff, it over heats and it fails, doesn’t mount. I need to do this. Great vid!

@Rayvyn007 Yup! Cool, expensive, Apple scotch tape, replaced with my regular scotch tape. Electrical tape works best!
Rayvyn007
Wait a minute was that scotch tape holding this thing together?

Made it look… as it easy as it was! Our iMac had slightly different plugs – but otherwise everything was the same. Hell, just seeing how easy it was to pop the glass off was great. This HD swap was easier than in a lot of ‘regular’ desktops Ive owned.
A+++

Thanks for this comment, I made this video for you and people like you (me), that had no other option but a self installation. My feeling is that you should be able to upgrade the ram, hard drive, and cd drive yourself if you want to learn how. But the iMac is made so mystical the average person can’t just jump on google and find out how to do it. Now you can!

This was perfect thank you. I put a new 1 TB in 20 minutes. I did not take out the panel. I instead had someone hold it up for me. You saved $120 I did not have. THank you again

I’ve never removed the stand, but most people don’t make it that far because you’d have to remove the system board which voids the warranty. I’m not to fond of the 1 year warranty so I’m not worried about it, I just haven’t actually dug that far into it. Be the first and make a video! I’ll attach it my video.

Great video. Now how about if I want to go one step further and remove the aluminium stand. Is it possible ? Safe ? Juste a few more screws to remove ?
Please let me know guys…

I had the same thing happen to me last week with the same imac (from ’06). I was on the Internet and it froze up…I couldn’t force quit or anything. Now the same thing happens to me too…it doesn’t get past the logo and spinning gear thing. Have you resolved the issue since then? I’m trying to work through mine without taking it anywhere at this point. Not really sure what’s going on. Thanks.

Thanks for the video. This looks crazy… but its pretty simple. You just have to take your time and plan. My old hard drive crashed. I got one of the ones you recommended. The operation went smooth. My Imac is alive again. Your video is more help than mac’s customer service.
Onebloodygrenade
hhhmmmm, think i’ll just get an external hard drive. Apple obviously didn’t really care about us wanting to upgrade the hard drives on these!

will this void the warinaty

The instruction where right on the money .I replaced the 320gb HD for a 2TB HD Seagate Barracuda @7200 rpm and works fine.
The only problem I encounter was the DVD player does not ejects the dvd inserted.Had to remove the Imac cover to eject the DVD inserted. How do I now if the cover is set in the right place.
I need assistance with these matter,
