Recently I got Wateen’s 512kbps wireless internet package, it comes with a VoIP phone no. when I call on the no. the phone didn’t rang so my question is that does VoIP needs a different(specific) type of telephone to be connected with?
VoIP service should work just like plugging in a phone to the phone jack. If you plug in a phone to the router and pick it up you should hear a dialtone. If you do not hear a dialtone, the voip service may not be properly enabled by your internet provider. There is no special phone that works, I have tested it on over 20 types of handsets including panasonic, sony, uniden and all the other major brands. It works on both corded and cordless phones (for cordless the base unit must be plugged in to the router).
I would tell you to call customer service, but that may be a bit of a problem if you do not have phone service yet. If you have a cell or another way to make a call, I would do so and you will need to be at your computer and have access to the router as well when you call.
