www.4allmemory.com Installing iMac Memory can seem like a daunting task, but it’s really not too difficult once you know you’re way around. Make your iMac really blaze with a computer memory upgrade.
that video was helpful, but i would like to know how to do that with a ibook G4.

The most your computer can handle is 2.5gb. 512 megabits (0.5gb) is non-replaceable.
The Hard Drive is where your information is stored, NOT the memory. Replacing memory will possibly gain speed but more likely increase the ability of your G5 to use multiple applications at the same time.
4allmemorydotcom
That is correct. Your model is newer than the one we had for demonstration.

thanks for that. so i dont need to take the whole back off my imac. just the slot at the bottom?
4allmemorydotcom
From what I can tell that model has the 512MB soldered onto the motherboard and an open socket. That socket can be upgraded with a 2GB part for a maximum of 2.5GB. Your socket would be under the front edge of the monitor. No data would be lost during the process.

so let me get this straight. i have an imac G5 1.9 GHz PowerPC memory 512MB ok. So i can take out my memory and replace it with 2x 2GB memory sticks to give me 4 GB altogether and i will not loose anything but just gain speed?
4allmemorydotcom
It would depend on the model of the G5, most take DDR SDRAM Modules instead of the PC100/PC133 SDRAM.
cobain93
will the SDRAM from my mac g4 work in an imac g5? because i have one 254 mb stick and then 2 512mb sticks. the ram in my imac g5 is bad so i need to put in working ram so i figured i culd take out the two 512mb sticks from my power mac g4 and put them in since they both take dimm sdram. right?
andeyejah
Hi can you please tell me what kind of ram i need for the g5?.Thanks alot.

Memory does not store any information, all information is stored on your hard drive. So changing the memory would not delete anything.
Thanks for the video its a great help.
schnurr31
thanks alot, and thanks for the really fast reply
4allmemorydotcom
Your hard drive is where everything is permanently stored such as your operating system, programs, and files. Memory modules (also known as RAM) is what transfers information back and forth between your processor and your hard drive. So no information is held on the memory. Hope this helps!
schnurr31
If i were to replace my memory cards, would any information be erased from my computer? I know its a diumb question lol

thanks it work ~!!

The computer is a Apple iMac G5 (1.8GHz, 20-inch, PC3200) According to your site it requires 1GB DDR-400 (PC3200), but doesnt specify on pins or anything else.
4allmemorydotcom
Hello, we would need a little more information to go on. Also many older Mac’s have different memory for different slots. If you go to our site you can cross reference what your exact model needs. Hope this helps.

For a first gen iMac G5 like this one, do I need 184-pin DIMM or 200-pin SODIMM? Im not sure which type to buy.
4allmemorydotcom
All of the iMac G5′s take DDR PC3200 SODIMMS, have two slots, and have a max memory of 2GB. You can get this memory at our online store. If you are doing music production and are working with a large number of tracks at one time, RAM is one fix for the bogging issue that you are probably getting. I would also suggest getting rid of any systems that are not necessary. This will free up Hard Drive and potential RAM space. Hope this helps.
