27″ iMac (Quad-Core) Review – Winter 2009/2010

Filed in Technology 25 comments

This is the top-of-the-line iMac. The screen has to be seen in person. I hope you enjoy the video. Feedback would be appreciated, thanks!

    I use a Firewire 800 to 400 adapter for my old DV video camera.

    I always recommend Apple Care just to ease any post purchase worries or tension.

    @jamiemate
    If you have adjusted the thumb nails too small, it won’t work.
    Hold down the “control” key and click on the desktop.
    Select “Show View Options”. Make the desktop icons a little bigger.
    This should help.

    Hi, I was wonder about 2:46 where you can preview the video in the thumbnail, I can’t do this in snow leopard (10.6.3). Do you know if it was ditched, or do I have to specify a setting to do it etc? Thanks.

    is it necessary to get the protection plan??

    @ReviewGuy1000 whats an “N-router”?

  • brillienta

    great review ! :)

    really good review. very helpfull, getting one soon

    @Coilaman continued…. What I’m sure you can do though is just get an 800 firewire cable to 400 end (9 to 6 pin) which should work fine and the cable will just work at 400mbps. That’s why i think they got rid of it as it wasn’t necessary to have 2 as the 1 port can do both however 2 would be nice to have an external HDD running at 800mbps and capturing HDV footage or something on the other… Oh well, search this firewire 800 to 400 9 Pin to 6 Pin on Amazon to get one :)

  • sjt04

    @Coilaman apparently these are hard to come by? And hubs that are able to do it aren’t actually converters? I tried finding a similar thing but for a totally different reason which is just why I’m curious but then I bought something else and didn’t to bother. I found this website which sounds interesting:
    Search firewire 400 to usb adapter and click on first link, Wisegeek (bloody youtube banning links…)

    Hey man, pretty good review. Listen, get a Firewire 400 to USB 2.0 adapter and then hook up those older peripherals to your new iMac. There is no point for Apple to include Firewire 400 any more because USB 2.0 is so close in speed and everything else has USB ports these days. Firewire in general, is an odd ball and has never been widely accepted. When it comes to your iPod from 2002, how come it is still alive? If you used it every day it would have died long time ago. It’s time to move on.

    that imac G4 was the best hardware apple has ever made. PEDIOD

    @Mossypne123
    Any wireless will work.
    You might want a “N-router” for the fastest speeds.

  • Mossypne123

    Will i need the airport station or will my current wifi work

  • macintoshcc

    if you miss the number keys on the side of the key board, you should buy the keyboard with wire, it got number keys

  • lawes88

    Great video!

  • gartcork

    Great review…I’m getting one based on this!

  • CNSCSPO

    just have to point out, you can order the keyboard with the number pad for free, you just have to choose it on the order form. so definitely not a deal breaker.

  • rockgod2131

    Finally an actual REVIEW. Not just a video showing the product and it’s ports. A review should have opinions in it.

  • Dexduzdiz

    man, if only could afford one

  • ReviewGuy1000

    @tony2timekilla
    Yes

  • tony2timekilla

    does it have wifi?
