Is it necessary to remove the memory and hard drive just to replace the top case?

Great. Does anyone know if this can be done without getting into the battery compartment? I just replaced the back of my macbook – long job – only to find I can’t get the battery out of the new back! Have removed case screws and that lets me pop off the keyboard on one side but only half way down the other. Thanks.

I’m pretty sure you can’t. I wanted to just buy a top case without having to buy the keys but they don’t seperate. Not to my knowledge, anyway
