iMac G4 17″ 1Ghz upgrade to 2GB of memory 500 GB hard-drive and Leopard

Upgrade iMac G4 17″ 1Ghz to 2GB of memory and 500 GB hard-drive. Parts used OWC 1GB PC2700 DDR 333MHz CAS 2.5 184pin / OWC 2700 PC2700 DDR SO-DIMM and 500GB Western Digital ATA hard drive. The iMac came with no hard drive and no hard drive cable! So I used an old PC IDE cable and tried to stuff the drive in so many ways. The hard drive recognize only 465.76 GB of the 500 GB why have no clue ? Sorry for the ruff editing made to fit youtube 10 min rule. Apparently 500 GB = 465.76 GB the capacity advertised by hard disk drive manufacturers isn’t the real drive capacity.

I thought the iMac G4′s could only have 1GB RAM?

  • carloshdz321

I got one of these free from a friend, broken dvd drive, no HDD and no ram. 2 days later, 512 mb ram salvaged from an old AMD pc, HDD from same pc, and DVD drive fixed completely (That was the hardest bit).
Runs OS10.5 perfectly, working on getting a gig of the laptop-looking pc-2700 to boost it.

Nice job, but the problem is that those macs are was to packed in. I got an iMac g5 off of eBay for only $300 amd it works great! It came with the new wireless keyboard and the majic mouse! It has a 180 GB hard drive and 2 GBS of RAM. you should really look into a new computer. Also, those macs are great and all, but I think the g4 is very ugly

Hey guys – ive recently accquired an iMac G4 and am looking to uprgrade the RAM from it’s current 512MB to 1GB+ by putting a 1GB card in one of the two RAM ports. Can anyone give me the lowdown on how I do it? Is it simple or should I take it to a shop? Cheers!

I just bought the imac g5 style intel version, and I am very happy with it. but how hard would it be to upgrade a hard drive yourself for a mac? mine only has 250gb.
