i want to be able to give my frineds and colleagues in China a local phone number that will ring my VoIP phone in the US. This is basically the reverse of Yahoo’s Phone in service where Yahoo offers US phone numbers to domestic and international callers via VoIP.

take a look at the MagicJack.com that is what I do!

I got one for my family and I have one too, so they can call me for free in the US with a US dial tone and number!!

remember the Chinese govt is very strict with phone number and all kind of VoIP!!

you can get a free chinese phone number issued in Hong kong and also you can get free incoming numbers in many countries. Noting down the source for you below

The closest I can find for a VoIP service that provides local access phone numbers for China, is for Hong Kong.

Skype offers SkypeIn phone numbers for Hong Kong, but not mainland China.
SkypeIn phone numbers for Hong Kong cost $60/Year.
Combined with SkypePro, then the SkypeIn number only cost about $24/Year. (includes VoiceMail)
SkypeOut rates to mainland China and Hong Kong is only 2.1 cent/min… same rate as USA/Canada calling.

To actually see the SkypeIn rates, you have to have a Skype account. Once logged-in, you will be shown the price, while placing a SkypeIn order. Once you see the price you can cancel the order process (that’s how I got the rate fees).

You may also want to check out MediaRing Talk.

MRT is currently offering FREE 10 minute calls to China and Hong Kong.
Keep an eye on MRT, because they are promising implementing Call-In phone numbers in near future.

MediaRing is headquartered in Singapore, with offices in Sunnyvale (USA), Tokyo, Shanghai, Beijing, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Kuala Lumpur, and Cambodia.
