    INCREIBLEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!

    @ceresxx99 That is, indeed, related to modern constructions. In the south of Chile, the consturctions are made of non strong materials, specially the old ones (1910-1950), plus they were not at all seismic at all. In santiago, of rinstance, the quake, although it was 8.2 in the richter scale, the construction handled very well indeed. Just old or bad constructed and calculated buildings recieved the worst part.

    @T0B0KKE 12th floor, mate.

    That might have been in a tall building.

    i just felt an earthquake from baja california quake i live in san diego it lasted for 10-20 secs and poles and traffic lights were shaking outside

  • ceresxx99

    “This earthquake overall can be considered a success in terms of the engineering and construction practices in Chile,” Mr. Maffei says.
    Cheers!!

    @tedtug

    You are right. Thankfully, some of the US engineers are over there on my country studying the buildings structures to improve the building codes here.
    US engineers study Chile earthquake to bolster California building codes

    Since the Chile earthquake, dozens of US engineers have visited Santiago and other affected cities to study the failures and successes of building codes here. They say it provides valuable insights for California.

    @ceresxx99 well, it would be folly to live in fear all the time, but it’s always better to be prepared than to be caught off guards, because identically to Chile, here in California we live in a seismically active zone, we have major fault lines and are prone to any magnitude earthquake everyday, we just have to live life as best we can, but at the same time be cautious. Besides, it really doesn’t matter where on earth you live, every area is prone to some kind of natural disaster.

    @tedtug

    I don’t know, but now I am really scared. My family is in Chile and I have to be here in the USA, one more year. However, I told my classmates that the most important thing is to remain calm. We already went to Costco and got canned food, water, flashlights ,and a battery operated radio. Hopefully, the firefighters and National Guard are well-trained to respond for this type of emergency….I need my mother, guaaaa!!!!!!

  • tedtug

    @ceresxx99 omg! I was in San Francisco 2 days before the Loma Prieta Quake back in 1989, I think that’s the correct year, anyways, I remember distinctly all the places we had traveled to where areas that sustained the most damage like the Marina District, Pier 39, the Nimitz freeway! In my opinion Frisco is at a higher probability of having a bigger quake than LA because of it’s close proximity to the San Andreas Fault! Doesn’t it run directly underneath the city?

  • ceresxx99

    @tedtug

    How about San Francisco? I am here right now. What scared me is the possible reaction of my fellow students…I am Chilean, so I know how to react :(
    Fuerza Chile!!!!

  • tedtug

    that is some scary shit! I cannot even imagine what an 8.8 quake would do to us here in Los Angeles!

  • mjgreenhill

    Increible, y eso que alla debe haber sido un 6 punto algo… les invito a ver mi cancion acerca de lo que paso, y me dan su opinion, saludos!

  • ijlr00
