3G allows you to serf the web even if your in the middle of the forest. You would not need a wireless connection with the 3G upgrade. But I will warn you that it is much more expensive than the regular price tag without 3G. The price of the iPad with 3G is around $700 including tax.

Thanks for a very thourough review. I’m struggling with this decision. I am an amateur artist and love my iphone Autodesk Sketchbook app. It is apparently available with a lot of upgrades on the ipad, but my only complaint is the max resolution of files. You mentioned the resolution for the ipad screen which seems very close to the max resolution of Sketchbook files- I have not yet been able to discern if the ipad Sketchbook app will support larger files… If anyone knows, please advise!

That anyone would say this is going to be THE new “ereader” of choice is kidding themselves. Reading books on a high res screen for hours at a time is not the same as reading them on a kindle or on actual paper.

If it is competing with basically a computer in a sense, it should atleast have flash so you can play hulu and sites like that. Definitely not something I’d invest in. I’m better off with a real computer, I can do so much more like photoshop, power points etc

The iPad looks cool, and would probably be a great internet browser, but I don’t think this is for everyone. I use my computer for writing essays and formal lab reports, and the iPad “pages” isn’t as easy as using OpenOffice/NeoOffice, which I don’t think the iPad offers. “Pages” also costs $9.99… For this reason, I’m getting a Hackintosh, and I would recommend it to those who want a portable computer that’s not an iPad.

reason there is no flash is because it is easily prone to crashing on mobile devices, if you are hoping to play flash games on ipad like New Grounds well good freaking luck without a mouse/keyboard. And yes, it is also about content control. “OMG a company isn’t okay with me sneaking around paying money for content on their product?! THEY ARE NAZIS”….please, what multi-million dollar company IS okay with that? People should stop for a min and think rationally as to why things aren’t there…

Apple never makes mistakes. The first gen Iphones were not good but the second gen are! same goes for Ipod and Ipad just have some patience, you’ll definetely get your flash in gen 2.
